A Few Tips for Better Landscaping

In order to develop an attractive landscape, there are a number of standard procedures that you need to keep in mind. They have the double benefit of helping your property look its best, while at the same time they are environmentally friendly and save you some money in the bargain.

Follow these tips for a better landscape so your property will stand out like a jewel in the neighborhood.

1. When you're planning your landscape, keep in mind that you want the soil to be able to retain water, without of course the potential for flooding or standing pools of water. If you're careful here, you should be able to reap the benefits of rain showers as well as maximize the use of your garden sprinkler. You will spend less time, effort and money on watering your lawn and plants, and will also help to conserve water in the process.

2. Be cautious when using fertilizer. It's easy to get carried away and use more than you need on your lawn or shrubs. Using excessive amounts of fertilizer can be harmful to your greenery as well as to the environment, particularly if it's a synthetic fertilizer. Choose organic fertilizers instead which are kinder to the environment. Better yet, plant vegetation that is native to the surrounding region and it won't need much of anything to help it thrive.

3. As well, restrain your use of weed killers and pesticides. Similar to fertilizer, these products can be detrimental rather than beneficial if you're not using them properly. They're also costly and have all sorts of negative impact on the environment.

4. Time the watering of your lawn and garden. For example, if you watering your plants first thing the morning, the ground will retain the water much better than if you do it in the heat of the day. Next best is to do it late in the evening. Once again, there are benefits for both your wallet and the earth with this practice. Even though it might seem like such an inconsequential practice, it really can make a difference in the amount of water you use.
